In theory it is not so overly hard to build a good guitar. Therefore you simply need some
tonewoods, good hardware, some electronics, the right tools and craftsmanship to assemble all these components in the right way. But – to build an extraordinary guitar that inspires and motivates its player by its
peerless character and individuality, beside this much more is essential. Therefore imperative is passion and experience, phantasy and the courage to break new ground and last but not least – INSPIRATION.Implementing the Hydra II, as a matter
of course we have attached great importance to first-rate tonewoods, high quality hardware and sophisticated electronics. Holding the Hydra Mark II in your hands, you will see and feel that it never was our aim to
build merely “any ordinary good guitar”. Based on the design of our Hydra I, after one year development time we have created the Hydra Mark II.
The Hydra II was built in a small range of only 120 pcs. mostly in handicraft. We have tested several tonewood and at last we have decided to use the best tonewoods we know for our Hydra II. The Body is made
of solid Korina wood with a solid 18 mm maple top and a stunning selected and perfect bookmatched quilted maple veneer. Why did we decide in favor of Korina although there are a lot of more low priced tonewoods on
the market ? Not for nothing Korina often is reffered as the holy grail of tonewoods. In our opinion Korina is the absolutely best tonewood to build an electric guitar from, and a lot of guitarist as well as
luthiers agree. Right from building the Morpheus I and II and the Hydra I we have experienced the great advantages of Korina wood. Alone the little weight of Korina is astounding.
The tonal characteristic is amazing. Weighing in at just 3,6 kilograms, the Hydra II is very comfortable to hold. This guitar fascinates with phantastic sustain and rapid attack. But the one-of-a-kind character
of the Hydra II arises from the composition of its components, the exceptional design and most of all the concept that stands behind that guitar. A look at the fretboard reveals that we wanted to extravagate when
designing the Hydra II. Here, celtic and greek mythology merge to a wonderfull artwork made of real abalone. In the greek mythology the Hydra is a nine-headed snake monster. We have designed our Hydra inlay in
form of a celtic dragon using celtic knotworks and beautyfull abalone. |

The neck, that is properly glued and set into the body is made of best hard Maple. Thanks to the
deep double cutaways and the very ergonomic set neck joint construction, its players need not be contortionists to gain access to the higher frets. The comfortable neck has a 25,5” scale and 24 medium jumbo frets
that are rounded, dressed and polished accurately. Even though a lot of guitarists will not spot it right away, they will feel it anyway: The fretboard is surrounded with a black binding. Thanks to the selected
tonewood and the masterly workmanship, the Hydra II surprises with remarkable volume and a very differentiated sound even when it is played unplugged. With the aim to transform the very hamonic character
and the unplugged sound potential perfectly into electrical oscillations we have developed the Kammerstein Quadrail humbucker as the perfect pickup for the Hydra II. |

Developing and designing the circuit and controls, like with the Morpheus II we have attached
great importance on versatility and practicality. No matter if in a studio, on stage, in a rehearsal room or even at home in the living room, the Hydra II will provide the perfect sound, and thanks to the Kammerstein
Quadrails she will do that without any hum or noise. Of course the electronic compartment is sealed with high quality graphite lacquer to shield the electronics against electromagnetic interference. Designing the
electronic compartment we have taken care to avoid a needless loss of tonewood. As you can see: At Zerberus-Guitars quality does not end where the light ends. |

The Coil-Spectro-Shift-Circuit allows a very accurate and versatile access to the tonal posibilities
of the Hydra II. |
This is how the Split-Shift Potentiometer works: |
Using the Coil-Spectro-Shift-Circuit the player has the possibility to blend each Kammerstein pickup from a
humbucker to a singlecoilhumbucker very sensitive and gradually change the sound from a warm and fat humbucker to a more percussive and bright singlecoil sound. The tonal possibilities are nearly boundless and
so the possible field of applications reaches from Jazz, Rock, Blues, Funk, Pop to Heavy Metal and many more. In fact you will meet the Hydra Mark II like the Morpheus II in all kind of bands where she asserts
herself because of her great sound and impressing versatility. A special highlight of the Hydra II is the well-engineered concept that stands behind the tremolo system. Even the best guitar becomes unusable if the
tremolo system does not work properly. Again Zerberus-Guitars relys on the best hardware that was perfectly matched to the Hydra II. The tremolo is a Wilkinson VS100 made by the well known high quality
manufacturer Gotoh. |

To quarantee smooth flow of the strings over the nut we have aseembled the Hydra II with a roller
nut. |
To avoid frictional loss, the headstock especially was redesigned to assure that the strings run parallel
straight from the nut to the tuning machines. If we would use standard tuning machines the guitar could become out of tune as soon as you work with the tremolo bar. To quarantee the guitar to stay in tune we have
used self-locking machines made by Grover. |
Even by the choice of the strings we attached great importance to provide best tuning perfomance and stability.
The Hydra II is equipped with strings made by the US manufacturer SIT (Stay In Tune) -strings from Ohio. The result of all that endeavors is a well designed and composed tremolo system that works very precise,
smooth and stays in tune no matter how hard you attack the whammy bar. Of course such a rare and valuable instrument has to be protected against damage by droping it. Therefore we have equipped the Hydra II like
the Morpheus II before with a great working Marvel straplock system. |
